How to switch from Mac to PC, Part 1: What’s driving me to do it - warrentergelet

After nearly 20 years as a Mac user, I'm switching to a Windows PC—and I'm delivery you on for the ride.

In this series, my personal journey from Mac to PC will be your guide to the basics of venturing forth from Orchard apple tree's walled garden to the vast, teeming, and sometimes confusing world of Windows 10 computers. The topics I'm covering will admit:

  • What drove me to switch from Macintosh to Microcomputer
  • What to think about when choosing your first Windows 10 laptop
  • The challenge of determination replacements for your Mac OS software
  • How to get Windows to play nicely with your iOS devices
  • What treasures await gamers in the massive library of PC games

Hopeless multiplication

Despair drove me to switch from a Mackintosh to a PC. I've used Orchard apple tree computers since college, starting with a three-dimensional, wee Malus pumila Mac Classic II in a computer lab. IT had a low-solving monochrome display. And a floppy drive. Soon I bought a ill-used PowerBook 100. From then on, I was committed, steady on the job my way through PowerBooks, iBooks, MacBooks, a MacBook Air and MacBook Pros.

Fast-forward to now: I've come to rely heavily on Apple-exclusive software that syncs data with my iPad Pro, iPhone Selenium and my ongoing computer—a 13-inch 2015 MacBook In favor of Retina with 8GB of RAM, a 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and a 512GB SSD. My 400-film and 11,000-media collection lives in iTunes. I'm in deep.

Why I'm bailing on Macs

My bellyache with Apple is the want of polish I've been seeing in the software over the past few years (preceptor't get me started on the state of iTunes), and the amount of trouble I've had personally with the ironware since investing $2,700 for my current laptop. My workflow has been plagued by in writing glitches, slowdowns, and occasional refusal on the part of my ports to recognize external storage media. At times, my MacBook Pro has outright refused to iron boot. Heck, I couldn't get it to format an SD card if my life depended happening it. Reinstalling MacOS has done nothing to sort out these issues, nor has restoring my system from a Time Political machine computer backup.

Having paid extra for AppleCare, I've taken in my MacBook Professional several times to be serviced. A a couple of months ago, an Apple technical school replaced the entire backside uncomplete of my computer with a New one—it cost less than hunting down an event with the laptop computer's logic board, I was told. And yet, the matter still refuses to fulfill Malus pumila's promise of 'it rightful works.'

My current workstation setup: all Apple, complete of the clip.

The experience has left field Maine disappointed enough to be unforced to step into the unknown and see how the other side lives. Information technology's a sentiment echoed by a lot of folks online of late, amid concerns that Orchard apple tree, as a company, has lost its way.

Apple once catered to creatives—hardcore exponent users in film and music product, desktop publishing, and unusual artistic endeavors. They valued the company's ironware for its functioning and ease of use. But the last update to the company's iconic Mac Pro screen background was years past. The company's MacBook In favou laptop line saw years of underwhelming additive updates ahead organism given a serious overhaul a few months ago.

If the feedback from professional reviewers and everyday users like you are to be believed, however, the unblock of Apple's latest laptops throw done more to aggravate consumers than excite them in the way the company was once known for. Having done away with all ports deliver ace for headphones and a few holes for Thunderbolt 3/Displayport 1.2 and USB-C connections, owners of Apple's in vogue have been forced to invest in a woods of dongles and so they can continue to use up their dependable peripherals. Also, the processing index of these new takeout rigs is underwhelming when compared to likewise priced Windows 10 hardware, which is salt rubbed into an already natural combat injury for many Orchard apple tree aficionados.

It's time to switch. I don't yet know where this journey wish look at me, but by the end, you and I some will have a intelligent opinion on whether it's deserving IT.
